Published by George Nicol, Edinburgh and London, 1786 first edition.
A rather special copy of this scarce volume - on the half title there is an inscribed presentation inscription dated to 1826 & 1827 which carries its original red wax seal from the Society of Scottish Antiquaries. The book was presented to the Northern Institution of Inverness by John Anderson, the Society secretary to his brother, George Anderson, as a reward for his essay on the descent of the Norsemen and Danes on the Western Coasts of Scotland.
A good copy bound in full calf leather, with gilt borders and spine decoration with raised bands and title label. Covers are scuffed and bumped at extremities with signs of shelf wear. Endpapers are marbled and have been strengthened at some point in the past. Binding is sound.
Text pages are very good - clean and bright and printed on a good quality paper. Preface section has some discoloration along top edge and some additional spotting. Other than some mild age toning to extremities and the occasional spot, text is very good. Marbled edges of text block - age toned.
Text in English.
