In 2 Volumes complete. The first Volume contains Life of Butler by Johnson, Remarks by J. Aikin, and Hudibras Parts I and II, An Heroic Epistle to Sidrophel and Hudibras, Part III, Canto I. The second volume follows on from Part III, Canto II, to the 'Genuine Remains of Butler'.
Hudibras was originally published between 1663 and 1678, and is Butler's classic satirical poem, which has remained admired and influential for over three centuries.

A very good set of 2 full calf leather hardbacks with gilt decoration to spine and black morocco labels. Covers with light wear and bumping and wear to vertical edges of outer joints. The joints are a little fragile but everything still soundly bound. Small loss at head of spine of volume I, and top panel at head of spine on volume 2 is darkened.
Text is generally very good. The frontispiece plates in each volume are spotted, affecting the opposite title page and surrounding endpapers, with spotting surrounding the other included plate. Otherwise text has light scattered spotting and some light page corner folds. Some cracking to endpapers at inner hinge.
