Julius Caesar and the Foundation of the Roman Imperial System, by W. Warde Fowler.

Published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, and Knickerbocker Press, New York and London, 1904. Part of the 'Heroes of the Nations' biographical series, edited by Evelyn Abbott, M.A., Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford. The book features the second edition of the original text (the second edition preface dated to 1897, and the first edition from 1891).

A very good full brown leather hardback in a full leather prize binding from 'Glasgow University. Gilt armorial and border to front cover with tooled gilt spine with Roman helmet, raised bands and burgundy morocco title label. Some minor shelf wear and scuffing to covers. Marbled endpapers, matched to text block edges. Presentation bookplate to first pastedown. Inner hinges cracked after free blank endpaper at rear, but all still soundly bound.

The text is in near fine condition throughout - bright and clean with beautifully presented illustrations and plates. Light spotting to rear blank endpapers. An attractive volume.
