Karl Marx; A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, 1897, Second German Edition. Zur Kritik der Politischen Oekonomie.

The second German edition of Marx's important study of commodities, value and money, edited with a new preface by Karl Kautsky. Originally published in 1859, the work anticipates arguments developed in Das Kapital and includes Marx's influential account of his materialist conception of history. This 1897 edition subsequently provided the basis for N. I. Stone's first English translation. An attractively bound copy from the collection of economic historian and Marx biographer Vincent Barnett, with his ownership signature.

A very good hardback with brown cloth spine and gilt titles and rules, with marbled paper over boards. Covers with light rubbing and wear, particularly to the edges and corners. Some offsetting and light spotting to the endpapers. Soundly bound.

Text is clear and legible throughout, with age-toning to the paper and occasional pencil annotations and underlining from a previous owner.

Text in German, printed in Gothic type.
