An early nineteenth-century religious biography of Susan Huntington (1791–1823), an American Christian writer and diarist associated with Boston's Old South Church. Compiled principally from her personal journals and correspondence, the memoir offers an intimate account of her spiritual life, religious convictions, family relationships and experiences of bereavement, reflecting the evangelical Protestant culture of early nineteenth-century New England. The volume also includes a funeral sermon by Benjamin B. Wisner, minister of the Old South Church, together with recommendatory notices by Scottish clergymen, illustrating the work's popularity among British as well as American religious readers.
