Published by D. Appleton and Company, New York, 1859, 1st edition - there is a dedication and copyright entry notice dated to 1858, but we think this 1859 is likely to be the original first printing. Although available as a modern reprint, this edition is now scarce.

A good brown cloth hardback with blind stamped decoration. Covers are shelfworn and marked, with ragged edges to the cloth. Some cracking to endpapers and mild foxing to first and last few pages. Text is bright and clean, and soundly bound. Slight give in the binding. Around 4 leaves have small nibbles along the top edge.
