Previously owned by Arthur James Balfour; First Earl of Balfour, former Conservative, British Prime Minister from 1902-1905. He also held various senior positions including First Lord of the Treasury, Irish Secretary, Leader of the House of Commons, First Lord of the Admiralty, and also head of The Foreign Office. His name, and family home name of 'Whittinghame', are stamped with gilt to front cover.

A good dark green cloth hardback with gilt titles, in Publisher's original binding. A little bumped and frayed to extremities, and with some give in the spine. Endpapers intact, but exposed to ebbing at gutter after first gathering. A previous owner's name to first free endpaper and library reference numbers to first free endpaper.
Text is bright and clean throughout making a good reading copy with a slightly fragile binding. Dust toned top edge.
