A very good brown cloth hardback with gilt titles. Some bumping and scuffing and just a little give in the binding, but all still bound with intact decorative endpapers. At the rear of the book, is a bound-in cloth band which holds 6 maps relating to the Mission's activities.

Text block with fine veined marbling to edges. Dust-toned to top edge. With a Chinese Hok-Schuha ink stamp to half title. Text is bright and clean with mild age-toning.

Vol 1: vi + 2pp + 456pp + Maps.

There are actually 6 maps included with this book, all of which are in excellent condition;
