Printed at Glasgow by the University Printer Robert Foulis, 1744 (Robertus Foulis, Glasguae). First Foulis Press edition.

A handsome eighteenth century Glasgow (Foulis Press) printing of the Greek lyric poets Anacreon and Sappho, preceded by a short Latin Vita Anacreontis by Tanaquil Faber and followed by a brief section of Alcaean fragments. Greek text with Latin notes at the foot of the pages.

Binding and Condition:

  • Binding: Contemporary full calf with gilt tools to the spine compartments and gilt burgundy morocco title label.

  • Condition: Light rubbing to joints and extremities. Inner hinges with some cracking but boards secure. Text is bright and clean with light toning and occasional scattered spot. One small contemporary marginal note observed.

  • Cortachy Castle Library label to front pastedown, seat of the Earls of Airlie, Angus, Scotland.
