Published by Librairie Hachette et Cie, Paris, 1884. The first published edition of the Cours supérieur – Livre de l'élève, issued as part of Dr. Saffray's educational series prepared in accordance with the French primary-school curriculum introduced on 27 July 1882.

A good hardback with printed paper over boards and brown cloth spine with blind stamped decoration and gilt title. Covers with shelf wear and are bumped and worn to extremities. First and last few pages, including endpapers and the text block edges  are quite spotted. Front endpaper cracked at inner hinge. The text features lighter scattered spotting. Well illustrated throughout.
