Carl Fraenkel & Richard Pfeiffer – Mikrophotographischer Atlas der Bakterienkunde. Erste und zweite Lieferung. Berlin: August Hirschwald, 1889.

Offered here are the first two instalments of Fraenkel and Pfeiffer's pioneering photographic atlas of bacteriology, among the earliest attempts to document bacterial forms through direct microphotography. The complete atlas eventually ran to five Lieferungen (1889–1890) with around fifty plates; this volume contains the substantial opening section: 48 pages of explanatory text with 2 plates, together with an additional 10 collotype Plates/Tafeln each featuring 2 photographs.

Though not the entire series, this copy represents a significant portion of the original work, providing both the textual foundation and a strong suite of photographic illustrations. Early issues of this atlas are seldom encountered on the market, and even partial sets are highly regarded as landmarks in the history of medical photography and bacteriology.
