The Naked Civil Servant is Quentin Crisp's celebrated autobiographical memoir, first published in 1968, recounting his unconventional life as an openly flamboyant homosexual man in mid-twentieth century Britain, at a time when such openness invited social hostility and legal risk. Written with the wit, candour and sharp self-awareness for which Crisp became known, the book remains an important and highly readable personal account of outsider life in post-war Britain. This signed copy carries additional association interest, being inscribed by Crisp to the psychologist and writer on photography Halla Beloff, linking the book to an identifiable intellectual contemporary.

The Naked Civil Servant, by Quentin Crisp.

Published by Fontana, London, February 1977 - second impression of this Fontana paperback issue, first printed earlier in the same year. Signed to the first free endpaper by Quentin Crisp and dedicated to Halla Beloff - her ownership ink stamp to the same endpaper.

A fair paperback - cover with crease and wear and a scuffed area to the front cover. Page gatherings a bit unevenly bound. Age-toning to text pages. 2 small 5mm edge tears to first free endpaper.

Book now housed in a vintage clear Penguin plastic cover protector (removable). An imperfect copy, but with a much valued signature.

Text in English.
