Published by Chapman & Hall Ltd, Autumn 1927. First edition thus. First English translation. The original works were first published in France in 1742 and 1767 respectively. Limited edition of 1,000 copies for England and America, of which this is No. 489. Part of a Series of XVIII Century French Romances, edited by Vyvyan Holland. Printed at The Curwen Press, Plaistow.

A very good hardback with pictorial printed paper over boards with linen spine and gilt title. Cover bumped at corners, with a few wear marks. Bookseller's stamp to first pastedown. Free endpapers with offsetting.

Text pages are bright and clean and soundly bound. With uncut edges as issued.
