Classic Myth & Legend, by A.R. Hope Moncrieff. With Illustrations in Colour & Monochrome from famous Paintings & Statuary.

Published by The Gresham Publishing Company, London. Undated but this volume believed to be 1912. None of these printings ever carried dates, or impression numbers, but is said to be identifiable as a first edition with its spine title and publisher's name in gilt. That said, we have observed that there can be variations in the frontispiece colour plate used, so we are uncertain if there is any priority regarding a true first impression. This volume is from the earlier Art Nouveau style binding of the book (known as Series 1), and carries gilt decoration to the front cover as well as the gilt top edge.

A very good hardback volume in green buckram with gilt titles and printed front and spine. Covers with minor wear to extremities, but very nicely presented.  Binding is sound, with just the slightest give in the spine, due to weight of text block, but very minor. A handsome volume, which has retained its original colour extremely well.

Text is generally nice and clean throughout, with occasional age spotting. Gilt top edge is shiny and bright. Other edges with some age spotting. All plates present as called for.
