The "Breakfast-Table" series by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. brings together three of his most popular and enduring works - The Autocrat, The Professor, and The Poet at the Breakfast-Table. First published between 1858 and 1872, these essays combine wit, observation and gentle satire, presented as conversational pieces set around a Boston boarding house table. Blending humour with reflections on society, literature and human nature, Holmes writes with charm and accessibility, and the series remains a cornerstone of nineteenth-century American prose, admired for its warmth, intelligence and enduring readability.
