The History of The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Translated from the Spanish by P.A. Motteux. In 4 Volumes, complete.

Published by William Paterson, Edinburgh, 1879 - 1884. These 4 volumes are all first printings of this version of the book. Printed by Turnbull & Spears, Edinburgh. An uncommon edition.

A very good set of 4 blue cloth hardbacks in original Publisher's design, with Don Quixote figure in gilt.

Text is clean and bright throughout with light foxing to first and last few pages. Some spotting to the uncut edges of the text block. With very attractive tissue guarded plates.

The inner joints of each volume have all been professionally strengthened and the joint colour matched to the endpapers, making for a secure binding. Without this, these books are always found very weak in their hinges, which are usually split, as the text block is of substantial weight relative to the boards.

Text in English.
