The Ingoldsby Legends or Mirth & Marvels by Thomas Ingoldsby, Illustration by Arthur Rackham.

Published by J. M. Dent & Co, London & P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1907. 2nd Edition. Originally published in 1898, and revisited as this deluxe style version. A Rackham classic.

A good green cloth hardback of this book, intended as a deluxe presentation by the publisher, containing many beautiful illustrated plates by Arthur Rackham.

Cover is worn and bumped with colour faded to brown at spine, and the vertical edges of the cover are significantly stained/discolored. Binding is sound and the pictorial endpapers uncracked at joints.

Text block is nice and clean throughout but with a degree of browning along the uncut vertical edge throughout. The Arthur Rackham plates are mounted on dark green textured card, with printed paper guards in front of each one (tissue guard to frontispiece).

A beautifully illustrated book - the tipped-in plates are lovely and clean - frontispiece plate has corner crease, with the rest of the plates being in lovely, fine, uncreased condition, with their guards present (all checked). Preface has a 3cm closed tear at the bottom. A 7cm tear to page edge on p. 87. Some page edges uncut, as issued.

xix + 549pp - Includes 36pp coloured and tinted plates (complete), plus many illustrations in the text.
