"After the preliminary general account, each state is taken up separately, with a brief list of works relating to it at the end of the several chapters. These are followed by chapters on the population, public lands and agriculture, manufactures, commerce, canals and roads, government, finance, education, religion, a summary of the political and military history of the country since 1800, and an account of the Indians." A good set of hardbacks bound with contemporary calf spines and corners and marbled paper over boards. Covers are scuffed and rubbed, with worn outer joints and worn to head and tail of spines, but all still soundly bound. Endpapers of all 3 volumes are marbled (matching). No library stamps or bookplates.
With 2 folding maps, as issued. Each with archival tape repairs to rear, and with foxing (as is normally the case with this set). Text is bright and legible throughout, with scattered spotting. Overall a very nice set of this respected work.
