Ecole Nationale Des Beaux-Arts; Les Grand Prix de Rome d'Architecture, 1907 Folio of Architectural Plates
This striking folio portfolio, Les Grand Prix de Rome d'Architecture, 1907, published by Armand Guérinet in Paris, presents a visually impressive and historically significant selection of architectural drawings submitted for the prestigious Grand Prix de Rome competition in architecture. Issued by the École des Beaux-Arts, the volume documents the top submissions – including Premier Grand Prix, Deuxième Grand Prix, and Deuxième Second Grand Prix – to the 1907 concours, for which the subject was the design of “Un Observatoire & une Station Scientifique” (An Observatory and Scientific Station).
The plates, printed in high-quality phototype (collotype), exhibit the detailed draughtsmanship, neoclassical rigour, and conceptual clarity for which the Beaux-Arts style was known. These portfolios were produced in very limited numbers, primarily for academic institutions, libraries, and architectural offices, and were not widely distributed commercially. Their survival rate is low, especially in complete form with ties and fold-outs intact, making this an uncommon item.
We can identify no specific Worldcat institutional holdings for this single year folio, which we believe is complete, as issued.
