Thesauraus Graecae Linguae, In Epitomen, Five Compendium, Redactus; Et Alphabetice, Gulielmi Robertson, 1676
A substantial and early Cambridge-printed Greek–Latin lexicon, this 1676 edition of Thesaurus Graecae Linguae represents an important effort to consolidate and simplify Greek lexical resources for scholars and students of the late 17th century. Compiled by the classical scholar Gulielmus Robertsonus (William Robertson), the volume draws on the works of Constantine the Grammarian and Cornelis Schrevelius, both influential in the tradition of early modern classical philology.
The work presents an epitome (abridged form) of the Greek language thesaurus, designed for practical use, and printed by the prominent university printer Johannes Hayes during a period of increased classical study at Cambridge. The arrangement is alphabetical and based on refined methodologies current in the mid-17th century.

This 1676 edition is uncommon on the market, especially in complete condition. It was part of a series of tools for classical education widely used in the 17th and 18th centuries, but survival in such substantial format is notable. Very scarce indeed.
A fair hardback volume - front cover is absent with spine and rear cover loosely retained - in original contemporary calf with scuffing, bumping and wear, and with some splitting and losses to the spine, with raised bands. Any blank endpapers at front or half title (if called for) are absent, but all pages from the main title onwards are present and bound together in a solid text block.
The text is actually in very good condition throughout - pages are still bright and clear with only mild age toning. Title page a little darker, but a very legible copy overall.
Language: Greek & Latin.
Pages unnumbered, but a substantial volume - all pages present from the title page to the final text page.
Dimensions: approximately 242mm high x 190mm wide x 80mm deep.
Unpacked weight approximately 2025g (unpacked).
