The Table-Talk and Bon-Mots of Samuel Foote. (With an Introductory Memoir.) Edited by the Late William Cooke. Illustrated.

Samuel Foote was born in Cornwall in 1721, and after an unsuccessful attempt at a career as a serious actor, turned his hand to writing and performing comic pieces, with more success. After a riding accident, resulting in the amputation of his leg, he went on to run a London theatre in Haymarket, and was the author of twenty six dramatic pieces highlighting his satire, humour and wit. The book features his anecdotal tales concerning many well-known figures of the day. He died in 1777.

Published by H.A. Rogers, London, 1889. First edition, thus. Numbered, limited edition, This being number 122 of 350 copies. Signed by the Publisher.

A very good hardback in half blue morocco leather and marbled boards, with gilt titles and raised bands to spine. An attractive binding, but with some shelf wear and scuffing, and bumped extremities. Spine is sunned, with some discolored markings. Soundly bound.

Text is bright and clean with some light age spotting in places, and a few spots to edge of text block. Plates are of high quality.
