The Accident by Dexter Masters is a powerful mid-twentieth century novel rooted in the anxieties of the atomic age, drawing on the author's own experience as a science writer closely connected with nuclear research. First published in 1955, the book explores the human and ethical consequences of a radiation accident at a secret atomic facility, combining suspense with serious reflection on science, responsibility and the nuclear era. A notable early work of atomic-age fiction, the novel was later adapted for cinema by Joseph Losey in 1967.
