
George Paul Chalmers, R.S.A. and the Art of His Time, Edward Pinnington, T. & R. Annan, 1896, Numbered Limited Edition of 100 Copies
A very limited edition of this book featuring the life and work of acclaimed Scottish artist, George Paul Chalmers (1833-1878). He painted portraits, landscapes, interiors and marine scenes, and became a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1871. Tragically, he lost his life in 1878, after a violent assault in Edinburgh.
This 'Edition De Luxe' volume was limited to just 100 copies, with this copy being numbered 25. A loose leaf subscriber's list is included in the book, which lists the initial 50 subscribers. This copy carries the bookplate of a 'P.S. Brown', of Craigmount, Broughty Ferry. He is recorded as being an Iron Merchant.

A very good copy of this impressive, and substantial volume. With leather spine, scuffed and worn, with gilt titles, and old numbered library reference number label to spine. With tan cloth over boards, and gilt title to front and gilt embossed monogram of of 'GPC'. Cover cloth with some scratches and wear and bumped to extremities. With navy blue endpapers. Soundly bound and endpapers remain intact at inner hinges, despite the weight of the book.
Text is in very good condition. There is some light spotting to endpapers and rough cut text block edges have darkened at extremities. There is some occasional and unobtrusive light scattered spotting elsewhere, but the text presents very nicely overall with the guarded Plates being of lovely quality.
