Second Volume of a Selection of Favorite Scots Songs, with Accompaniments for the Harp or Piano Forte, which may be Performed on these Instruments either with the Voice or Without it as Familiar Lessons, to which are added Several Airs With Variations, Composed and Respectfully Dedicated, by Permission, to The Right Honorable The Earl of Eglinton, by John Elouis.

Sold by R. Birchall, London; Goulding & Co, Dublin and London; and Muir, Wood & Co., Edinburgh, 1807. The Music Engraved by J. Johnson, & The Letter Press printing by Oliver & Co, Edinburgh.

Signed by John Elouis to the title page. First edition, and sold to Subscribers. Appears to be very scarce - Worldcat appears to indicate a maximum of 5 institutional library copies of this volume.

A good book of Crown Folio proportions (approximately 16 inches high). Bound with calf leather spine and corners and marbled paper over boards. Bumped and scuffed. The front cover binding is very fragile with the front outer joint largely split and only held via the Endpaper inside. Rear cover is secure. First pastedown with bookplate of Godfrey E.P. Arkwright, and small bookseller's sticker.  Godfrey Edward Pellew Arkwright (1864-1944) was a British musicologist, and editor of "The Old English Edition", founding editor of "The Musical Antiquary", and editor of church music of Henry Purcell for the Purcell Society. Light spotting to endpapers. First free endpaper has a 5cm closed tear from gutter arising from weak front cover binding.

The text itself is very good throughout with some ageing as would be expected for engraved printing of this age, along with some offsetting of musical scores, again as is most normally found. Rough cut edges as issued. Overall the music presents handsomely.

Text in English/Scots.
