A good maroon cloth hardback in original Publisher's binding, with gilt titles. Covers bumped and scuffed with some sunning and staining. Endpapers starting to split at inner hinge, and a few gatherings at the end a little loose. With frontispiece map of the island, and 11 full page plates (all present as called for).

The text pages are generally clean and bright. One 3cm closed marginal tear to top edge of p. 147 (not affecting text). Plates have age spotting and some with corner staining. A good reading copy of an interesting volume of the fascinating history of this Scottish island.
