A unique copy of this work. A previous owner has restored it to completion, by creating a number of hand drawn pages including the title page, advertisement, musical notation table, the completion of music and verse at the rear, alongside a complete contents list.

The Musical Cyclopedia, Being A Collection of English, Scottish, and Irish Songs; with Appropriate Music, by James Wilson, Esq. To Which is Prefixed and Essay on the First Principles of Music, by William Grier, M.A.

Published by Allan Bell and Co, London. With 1834 date to Preface of William Grier's essay. Believed to be a first edition, and somewhat uncommon.

A good hardback with leather spine and corners, and marbled paper over boards. Covers bumped, scuffed and rubbed, but all soundly bound. Bookplate of 'George Forbes M.D.' to first pastedown. Some cracks beginning in endpapers at front inner hinge and some offsetting to free endpapers opposite leather corners.

The title page is very neatly hand drawn and followed by the reproduction of an advertisement in script and a table of musical notation. Text is bright and clear with some age toning and occasional light spotting. A small number of neat paper repairs to a few pages. With 10 pages of neat scripted restored text at the rear, making this a charming and very usable (and scarce) book.

Text in English.

Prelims + lxxxiv + 272pp (including restored hand-drawn pages).

Weight: approximately 646g (unpacked).

Dimensions:

Approximately 240mm tall x 159mm wide x 25mm deep.
