Drawn, Engraved, Printed and Published at the Edinburgh Geographical Institute under the patronage of the Royal Geographic Society, 1912. Second edition, revised and expanded - Please note this book is often mistaken for the first edition as it does not specify second edition in the titles, but this can be discerned from the Preface. Despite this, we can find no earlier copy listed on Worldcat.
A very substantial early 20th Century atlas with an impressive collection of colour plates. A very good copy with plates which are nice and clean and free of spotting. Hardback with its original covers, with leather spine with raised bands, and leather corners, and with gilt decoration and titles. Navy blue linen over boards. Gilt armorial panel to front. Covers bumped and scuffed. Marbled endpapers with blue cloth strengthening to inner hinge (probably as issued). Soundly bound overall with a few of the text pages preceding the maps beginning to loosen.
Marbled endpapers. The text and plates are in very good condition, and are well produced with white cloth strengthening tape to gutter (as issued). Gilt edges to text block.
An impressive tome of considerable scarcity. Only 13 copies are listed in major libraries worldwide in Worldcat. As well as the main plates, based on the Ordnance Survey, there are 8 maps from Blaeu's Atlas of 1654, and other maps and diagrams with supporting information.
Prelims + 23pp + 68 Plates; Plates are large double page colour spreads.
Dimensions: Approximately 465mm x 330mm x 55mm - approximately 18" x 13" - large folio size.
