William Whewell's Astronomy and General Physics Considered with Reference to Natural Theology (1833, first published) was one of the celebrated Bridgewater Treatises, a series of works commissioned to explore science in the light of natural theology. Whewell (1794-1866), polymath and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, here examines the laws of astronomy and physics as evidence of divine design, in a text that became one of the most widely read of the series.

A good full red leather hardback with gilt border decoration to covers and blind stamped borders, with gilt tooled decoration, raised bands, and black morocco title label to spine. Gilt tooled edges to boards. Covers with some scuffing and bumping, and rubbed to joints. The feathered marble endpapers have some cracking to hinges, but all holding well.
The main body of the text is in very good condition - bright and clear throughout, with one spread with a pressed plant inside, causing some minor discoloration. With marbled edges to text block.
