Observations on the Present State of the Highlands of Scotland, with a View of the Causes and Probable Consequences of Emigration, by the Earl of Selkirk, 1805.

Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, London; 1805. This volume is lacking the main title page, and only has the half title, but through comparison, this is the 1805 first edition. It is stated on the final Appendix page lvi that the book is printed by R. Taylor and Co of London, whereas the second edition of 1906 was printed by Ballantyne of Edinburgh. The second edition also has a slightly different pagination so this is clearly the first printing.

A very good hardback with leather spine and corners - would be near fine except for the missing title page. A later rebinding, but not recent. Raised bands and red morocco title label. Some wear to spine leather. Bookplate of Kilberry. Binding tight and secure.

Minor age spotting to endpapers and a few pages at extremities, but text is otherwise lovely and clean except for a few pages which have a few marks or spots. There is one spread on which there are relevant annotations in pencil. A handsome volume.

Text in English.

vii + 223pp + lvi Appendix.

Dimensions: Approximately 214mm high x 140mm wide x 20mm deep.
