The Relation of a Wonderful Voyage made by William Cornelius Schouten of Horne. Shewing how South from the Strights of Magelan, in Terra Del-fuogo: he found and discovered a newe passage round the world. Describing what Islands, Countries, People, and Strange Adventures he found in his saide Passage. Imprinted by T.D. for Nathaniele Newberry, and are to be sold at the signe of the Starre, under S. Peters in Corne'hill, and in Pope-head alley, 1619, London.
A delightful facsimile of these two works, bound in the style of 17th century vellum binding with ties, with solander box and leather slipcase by J Fellows. Produced for the World Publishing Company, Cleveland Ohio, by Goerge Rainbird Limited, of London, and printed by Amilcare Pizzi, S.P.A., and Cincello Balsammo, Milan. Bound by Legatoria Editoriale Giovanni Olivotto, S.P.A., Valencia. Undated, but we believe this set was published in 1966. The outer leather slipcase is by J Fellows, and is a custom addition to the published set.
The book is in fine condition, with vellum covers, bevelled edges and cloth ties. Gilt armorial to the front and gilt title to spine. Text is clean with no signs of usage. Soundly bound.
The solander box housing the book is near fine - green linen cloth outer with printed facsimile title lables of the two books to front and rear. The interior lined with maroon coloured velvet. Gilt vellum title label to spine. Mild shelf wear.
The outer slipcase box is in fine condition with speckled calf spine with raised bands, gilt tooled decoration and red morocco title label. With marbled paper over boards.
