Excursions into Puzzledom is a delightful Victorian compendium of word games, puzzles and illustrated amusements, bringing together the previously separately published three series of Tom Hood's popular collections of charades, acrostics, enigmas and conundrums. Richly illustrated throughout, the work reflects the Victorian enthusiasm for parlour entertainment, literary games and family recreation, combining wit, ingenuity and playful illustration in an engaging volume of nineteenth century light entertainment. Compiled by Tom Hood and his sister Frances Freeling Broderip (better known as "Aunt Judy"), the book offers an appealing glimpse into the domestic amusements of the Victorian period.
