Published for M. Cooper, at the Globe, in Paternoster Row, London. 1747 first edition. Biography of James Butler, the 2nd Duke of Ormonde (1665-1745). He was an Irish Statesman and soldier. He served with William of Orange. A scarce volume.
Original full calf leather binding with raised bands and gilt borders. Hardback. Covers are heavily worn, bumped, scuffed and shelfworn with tired leather. Hinges are cracked and covers are held by their ties, so still bound, but weakly bound. Bookplate has been removed from first pastedown, and previous owners' details in pencil to endpaper and pastedown.
The textblock itself is actually very good. Text is clean and bright and in very nice condition.
vi + 544pp +4pp Index. Plus 2 original blank endpapers at both front and rear, and Frontispiece. Contains a few item of loose ephemera and notes from previous owner.
