Published by Nichols and Son; F.C. and J. Rivington; A. Strahan; Leigh and Sotheby et al. 1816.
A good set of full leather hardbacks with gilt decoration and raised bands. Covers are worn and rubbed with fraying and small losses to some of the heads of spine, and most of one of the Volume number labels is missing. Cracking to outer hinges and some inner endpaper joints, but all still bound and text blocks solid.
Text is nice and bright throughout with some foxing to endpapers, but is in very readable condition. Samuel Johnson etching frontispiece to Volume 1, (presumably published for this set, as it also is dated 1816). Index included in Volume 12. Marbled edges to text block. Imperfect, but still a desirable set. Owner's bookplate of Wiliiam Croudson to first pastedown.
Language: English.
Dimensions: Each volume approximately 228mm high x 144mm wide x 30mm deep.
Unpacked weight over 8kg (the set).
