Bishop Burnet's History of His Own Time, Volume IV.

Printed by Hamilton, Balfour and Neill, Edinburgh, 1753.

Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715), also Bishop of Salisbury, was a Scottish historian and philosopher, and a close confidante of King William II. The 1st volume of History of His Own Time was published in 1713 and was followed by 5 further volumes.

This volume he also calls 'Book V' and covers the reign of William and Mary.

A good copy. Full original leather covers with raised bands, which are heavily worn and degraded (and now stabilised with Cellugel). Covers are intact with fragile joints. Text is in good condition. Some torn losses to top of title page (not affecting text), discoloration to endpapers, and soiled page edges. Closed 2cm tear to last Contents page. Blue ink stain to first text page. Previous owners bookplate to last pastedown (upside down). But overall text block is good, and clean for age. A scarce Scottish printing.

Title page + 9pp Contents + 374pp.

Dimensions approximately 172mm x 102mm x 32mm.
