Undated, 1862 or later; the printed extracts are taken from the sixth edition of Alfred Ronalds' Fly-Fisher's Entomology, published in 1862. These are often attributed as being produced in 1862 due to the text, but they were manufactured for many years afterwards, so dating is uncertain. From appearances alone, we would suggest early twentieth century. Housed in a canvas wallet with stud fastening, incorporating vellum pocket leaves and felt leaves for holding fishing flies.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRichard Wheatley produced a number of these fly books (wallets), in a variety of different bindings. This is a canvas variant with cloth trims. Upon opening is a pocket with a stitched leather strap which could be used to hold a small pair of scissors, stamped with the words 'Made in England'. There is also a rear pocket. The strap retains traces of ink writing - probably an ownership mark.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe bound-in book is comprised of a number of different materials;\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e8 leaves, comprising 15 printed paper pages and a final blank; \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e6 vellum leaves with double sided pockets; \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e2 thick felt leaves for holding flies. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis example retains 47 fishing flies, generally in very good condition, together with some fly-tying thread and gut.
