Corleone; A Tale of Sicily by F. Marion Crawford (Francis Marion Crawford, 1854-1909). This novel was the first to feature the Italian mafia in a work of literature - with a title name achieving much greater fame in The Godfather many year's later.
Published by Bernhard Tauchnitz, Leipzig, 1897. Presumed first edition. From their series; Collection of British Authors; Tauchnitz edition. Vol. 3250. In Two volumes (complete). Although listed as a 'British' author, the author was American. This is an uncommon edition.
A very good set of hardbacks with burgundy chagrin spines with raised bands and gilt and paper over boards. Marbled endpapers. Some bumping and rubbing to boards. Some splitting to head and tail hinge on outer cover, but all still soundly bound.
Text is is nice and clean throughout. Age discoloration to endpapers.
