The presentation label is completed in manuscript for \u003cem\u003eCarolus [Charles] W. Thomson\u003c\/em\u003e and personally signed \u003cem\u003e\"G.G. Ramsay L.H.P.\"\u003c\/em\u003e by Ramsay. The designs, reproduced at twice the size of the originals, provide visual counterparts to passages in Horace, with detailed notes at the rear identifying and discussing the individual gems and their sources. The Latin text was revised by the distinguished classical scholar \u003cem\u003eH.A.J. Munro\u003c\/em\u003e (1819-1885), best known for his important edition and translation of Lucretius. A founding member and later President of the Scottish Patriotic Association, he is best remembered for his substantial two-volume historical work \u003cem\u003eScotland's Work and Worth\u003c\/em\u003e (1909-10).
