Printed for the Oxford Historical Society at the Clarendon Press. Edition or impression information is not stated, but we think 10 of these volumes are likely to be first editions, through their appearance, and gilt top edges and gilt cover motif. We have reviewed some entries on Worldcat and note, for example, although the first volume is dated to 1884 on the spine, the earliest listed editions in Worldcat are from 1885, as per our copy here.
Volume XI appears to be a later reprint than the stated 1921 publication date, and does not feature gilt on the top edge or front cover. This is the complete set of 11 volumes, and comprising early printings, is scarce as such, as a set.
A good set of blue cloth hardbacks with gilt motif to front and gilt titles to spine. With shelf wear, bumping and rubbing. Spines darkened. Some volumes with some additional marks to covers. Most volumes with previous owner's signature and blind stamped address to first free endpaper. Offsetting to endpapers.
Text is bright and clean throughout with mild age toning. With gilt top edge to first 10 volumes, as issued. Vol IV with fold-out frontispiece. A good early set.
