19th Century Japanese albumen print, Kusakabe Kimbei.

An original hand coloured albumen print from the studio of Kusakabe Kimbei (日下部 金兵衛), 1841-1934. Print is mounted onto card of approximately 34cm x 26cm (an original Japanese photo album page), and the print itself is 26cm x 20.4cm.

The print is entitled "80. Visiting Ceremonials' and depicts a studio representation of a Samurai and two Geishas. Detail is very good and colour has been nicely retained.

This print is identifiable from a catalogue list of Kimbei's studio works published in 1893, and is catalogued in Terry Bennett's Old Japanese Photographs: Collectors' Data Guide, Quaritch, 2006.
