Marsh was Private Secretary to Winston Churchill, and also to Prime Minister Asquith. He was a renowned classical scholar and translator and provided advice to Somerset Maugham on his writing. He was a respected Patron of the Arts, supporting a number of artists and also introduced Siegfried Sassoon to Churchill. Hassall, himself a published poet, also wrote Marsh's comprehensive biography.

A very good copy. Terracotta cloth hardback with labelled spine design. Dustjacket is good. Not price clipped. Some discoloration to dustjacket and a small tear to top and some rubbing and bumping. Text is clean. Owner's name sticker - Charles Ballantyne, Yarrow, is fixed to the first pastedown. Ballantyne was a personal friend of Marsh.
