Antique Thai Rattanakosin period standing Buddha, c. 1900.

A very attractive Gilt alloy standing Buddha from the Rattanakosin period (generally a metal alloy of a brass variant was used for this type of Buddha rather than bronze). Dating to late 19th/early 20th Century.

In very good condition with the gilt well retained and just the occasional small age mark. Lovely detail on the Buddha's floral robe and the intricate base. With flame usnisha.

Standing on a pedestal base. The Buddha's stands with both palms facing outwards and upright in a gesture known as the Gesture of Calming the Ocean, or double Abhaya Mudra position. Generally representing reason and calm.

Most likely from the time of Rama V - Chulalongkorn (จุฬาลงกรณ์). He ruled from 1868-1910.
