Following the end of World War II, in a period of austerity and rationing, the Edinburgh Festival aimed to bring people together via the Arts. From those beginnings, alongside the Fringe Festival, it is now part of the world's biggest arts festival.

Offered here is an interesting collection of ephemera relating to those early years, comprising;

1947: The very first Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama; Main Festival Souvenir Programme, Theatres Programme of Events, & Lyceum Theatre Programme;

1951: A hinged cloth hardback folder (c. 268mm x 192mm), housing approximately 25 events programmes from the Festival; and;

1955: A tartan cloth hardback photo album (c. 250mm x 303mm) of approximately 40 leaves, on which are mounted a double-sided wealth of attractive Festival ephemera including photographs, programmes, cuttings and related materials. Many of the programmes contain the original event ticket stubs. All mounted with care and attractively arranged.

Condition: The 1947 materials are good, but hinges are rusted and worn. The 1951 book of items is rather musty with damp spot damage. The 1955 album is near fine.

A fascinating collection of ephemeral materials, many of which will inevitably be very scarce.

Weight: Approximately 2.02kg (the set - unpacked).
