Back-Trailers from the Middle Border is the final volume in Hamlin Garland’s celebrated Middle Border series, completing his semi-autobiographical account of American frontier life in the late nineteenth century. First issued in 1928, the work reflects Garland's mature perspective on the social and personal costs of westward expansion and stands as a key text in early twentieth-century American regional literature. The presence of a contemporary author presentation inscription, dated the year of publication, adds a pleasing associative element to this copy of one of Garland's most enduring works.
