Burmese Standing Monk, Shin-thiwali, JC2.

This attractive sculpture, carved in teakwood is of Shin-thiwali who is seen as the patron saint of travel in Burma. He is viewed as a protective figure against catastrophe and can be found in both domestic and commercial situations.

Lacquered paint on teak wood, on dark red base. The carving and decoration is well executed and detailed. With age wear - see photos. He is depicted with his staff and beads, and is carrying his fan and alms bowl. Of good size.
