Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. His signature, to first free endpaper, along with a signed dedication to William St Clair, from the author, Leslie A. Marchand, dated to 1977, in Volume I. William St Clair has also signed his name to Volumes II and II. He has also written notes to last free endpaper of Volume I, and an occasional pencil mark elsewhere. In addition there is a postcard addressed to Sir William St Clair about the book from someone at the New Dictionary of National Biography. Please see our other listings for related works.

A set of 3 very good red cloth hardbacks with gilt monogram roundel to front cover. Minor bumping to covers. Dustjackets only fair - largely intact, but with losses and tears. Wrapped in removable protective plastic. Text is clean, bright and soundly bound. Illustrated.
