The Times Six Sheet Contour Road Map of Scotland, Edition De Luxe, Geographia Ltd. Boxed set.
Produced under the direction of Alexander Gross F.R.G.S. and Published for The Times by Geographia Ltd, London. Undated but c. 1920s - 1940s. The map does not feature Glenrothes, which was a new town which developed in Fife in the 1950s, and nor is the Forth Road Bridge indicated - which opened in 1964, and construction work had began in 1958.
This lovely set of maps consists of a hard slipcase covered in brown cloth with gilt titles. the slipcase has a fixed cloth tie which is pulled to lever the maps out of the box. Inside there is a set of 6 linen backed maps.
The maps are based upon the Ordnance Survey Maps with the sanction of the Controller of H. M. Stationery Office. Scale 3 miles to 1 inch (1: 190,080).
A near fine set overall. The slipcase has some shelf wear and bumping. The maps are in excellent condition and have seen little use. Each map is fully linen backed for strength and folded to an eighth of the total size. A few foxed marks on the reverse of the linen, not affecting the printed maps.
