Crerar's Edition of Burns' Poems, With His Life and Character, In Two Volumes, 1802 Kirkcaldy edition
A scarce early copy of this edition of Robert Burns' poetry. Two volumes bound as one.
Printed by J. Crerar, Kirkaldy, 1802. First edition thus. Scarce.
A fair copy of this uncommon publication, with faults. Bound in original calf leather, worn, scuffed and bumped with losses to head and tail of spine. Missing frontispiece and title page at the beginning of the book. Pages xi and 1-16 are missing (Life and Character of the Author). The title page of Volume II is present, but detached. Missing p24/25 including engraving of 'The Holy Fair' and p31/32 . In volume 2 the engraving of 'The Cotters's Saturday Night' is present. (Craig Lamont's bibliography form the University of Glasgow)
Text is bound, but fragile. Pages are age toned with some discoloration, some stained edges, some small tears and creases and other small faults. Despite any shortcomings, a rare opportunity for a Burns lover to get their hands on a scarce printing.
Text in English/Scottish Dialect.
