Letitia Elizabeth Landon (1802-1838), better known as L.E.L., was an English poet and novelist of the Victorian era, spanning romanticism and Victorian age writings. Mary Howitt (1799-1888) was also a poet, most famous for her poem The Spider and the Fly. Her involvement in this publication began after the death of L.E.L., who's poetry is still represented in this book. This series of books combine beautiful poetry with stunning printed plates.
A good cloth hardback with elaborate gilt design. Covers are dark green/blue in colour with brown spine. Covers with soiling. bumping and wear. Previous owner's signature to inner endpaper. Some splitting at inner joints to endpapers at the front, but all still bound. Text is generally nice and clean with some spotting to the plates in places. With tissue guards. Gilt edges to text block.
