A biographical account of Major-General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope (1846–1899), the distinguished Scottish soldier who served in numerous British military campaigns, including the Ashanti War, the Sudan and the Second Boer War. Written by William Baird, the volume traces Wauchope's military career, character and public service, culminating in his death at the Battle of Magersfontein in December 1899, where he commanded the Highland Brigade. A popular and respected figure in Scotland, Wauchope was widely mourned following his death.
