An uncommon early history of British horse-racing, tracing the development of the sport and the establishment of its principal race meetings, together with accounts of notable races, horses, owners and sporting personalities. Published anonymously in 1863, the work combines historical records with anecdotes and observations on racing culture, providing an interesting contemporary account of a sport which by the mid-nineteenth century had become firmly established as a major national pastime.
